Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling! The sport of BJJ has rapidly been gaining popularity as more people become familiar with the many aspects of this great Martial Art. BJJ is one art where a big person can be dominated by a much smaller (or much older) opponent.
BJJ can best be described as the “Gentle Art” or “Chess on the Mat” in that you can cause such intense pain to obtain a submission, yet not injure your opponent. The sport requires thought, skill and training as there are tons of moves, countermoves and a variety of strategies which can be employed for or against each competitor. Further, it is an incredible cardio workout, which some have advised can burn off as many as 2,000 to 3,000 calories per session.
